Did you know that drinking alcohol might negate the benefits of exercise for your sleep quality? A 2021 study found that alcohol can counteract the sleep-promoting effects of exercise by reducing restlessness and nighttime awakenings.
Among light drinkers, being active throughout the day decreased interruptions and enhanced the quality of sleep. However, with individuals who consumed more alcohol, exercise had little to no effect on improving the quality of their sleep. In fact, drinking more was linked to staying up later and doing less exercise in general.
This shows how drinking alcohol might affect your ability to sleep and maximize the benefits of an active lifestyle. Reducing your alcohol intake will enable you to get the most out of your workouts.
